What Is the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program?

The short answer: pay $20 per year, save up to 25% on every AMSOIL order, and get free shipping. If you maintain more than one vehicle or buy AMSOIL more than once a year, the membership pays for itself on the first order.
If you've been buying AMSOIL at retail or wondering whether there's a smarter way to purchase, the Preferred Customer program is almost certainly the answer. It's AMSOIL's middle tier, between paying full retail as a one-time buyer and registering as an authorized dealer, and for most people who use AMSOIL regularly, it's the right fit.
I've been an AMSOIL Authorized Independent Dealer since 2004. I'm Customer Certified, which puts me in the top 6% of dealers nationwide. I've helped hundreds of people figure out which account type actually fits their situation. The Preferred Customer program is what I recommend most often, because most people who contact me use AMSOIL for their own vehicles and equipment, not to build a business. For that group, Preferred Customer delivers the best value with the least complexity.
Here's everything you need to know to decide whether it's right for you.
What Do You Actually Get as a Preferred Customer?
The Preferred Customer program gives you four concrete benefits from the moment you join.
Up to 25% off retail pricing on every order. AMSOIL's retail prices are what a walk-in buyer pays. Preferred Customer pricing is the next tier down, a consistent discount applied across the full product catalog, not just select items. Motor oil, transmission fluid, gear lube, filters, fuel additives, greases, the discount applies across the board.
Free shipping on every order. AMSOIL ships directly to your door at no additional cost regardless of order size. For people ordering multiple products at once, this adds up quickly.
Access to exclusive promotions. Preferred Customers receive access to member-only pricing specials and promotional offers that aren't available to retail buyers.
Access to the full AMSOIL product catalog. AMSOIL makes over 300 products.
Preferred Customers can order anything in that catalog at the discounted tier, including products for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, diesel trucks, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, marine engines, small engines, and commercial equipment.
The membership runs either six months or one year. The annual option gives you the better per-month value. There's no auto-shipment requirement and no minimum order quantity, you order what you need, when you need it.
Does the Membership Fee Actually Pay Off?
For most people, yes, often within the first order. Here's the math.
AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil retails at roughly $14–$16 per quart at standard pricing depending on the product and pack size. A standard oil change on a passenger vehicle uses 5–6 quarts. At retail, that's $70–$96 in oil before you factor in a filter.
With 25% Preferred Customer savings, that same oil change costs roughly $52–$72 in oil. On a single oil change, you've already recovered most or all of the $20 annual membership fee.
If you maintain two vehicles, a motorcycle, or any powersports equipment alongside a daily driver, the math gets more compelling with each additional application. The person who runs AMSOIL in a truck, two ATVs, and a boat, a combination I see often, saves several hundred dollars per year compared to retail pricing, all from a $20 annual membership.
The extended drain intervals compound this further. AMSOIL Signature Series is rated for up to 25,000 miles or one year between oil changes in normal service. If you're currently changing oil every 5,000 miles with a conventional or lower-grade synthetic, switching to AMSOIL at Preferred Customer pricing and extending your drain interval can cut your annual oil spend significantly even before factoring in the discount.
What Vehicles and Equipment Does It Cover?
The Preferred Customer program gives you access to AMSOIL's complete product line, which covers virtually every engine type and application.
Passenger vehicles and light trucks. Motor oil in every common viscosity grade for gas and diesel engines, including high-mileage formulations for vehicles over 75,000 miles.
Motorcycles and V-twins. AMSOIL makes dedicated products for wet-clutch motorcycles, V-twin engines like Harley-Davidson, and sport bikes. These are not the same formulations as passenger car oil, they're engineered for the specific demands of motorcycle engines, which run hotter and at higher RPM.
Diesel trucks. AMSOIL's diesel motor oil lineup covers light-duty and heavy-duty diesel engines. I run AMSOIL in diesel applications regularly, and the extended drain capability matters most here, diesel oil degrades faster under load, and a product rated for extended intervals saves both money and downtime.
ATVs and UTVs. Powersports machines run harder than daily drivers. Dust, mud, high RPM, aggressive loads. AMSOIL makes application-specific products for ATVs and UTVs that are formulated for these conditions rather than adapted from a passenger car formula.
Snowmobiles. AMSOIL has made snowmobile-specific 2-cycle and 4-cycle oils for decades and sponsors competitive snowmobile racing. The cold-temperature performance data is real and relevant. AMSOIL Signature Series demonstrated 36% easier cold starts compared to conventional oil in independent testing (ASTM D5293).
Marine engines. Outboards, inboards, personal watercraft. I've run AMSOIL in 2-cycle outboards and diesel inboards on my own boats for years. Marine applications deal with moisture, saltwater exposure, and sustained high-RPM operation, conditions that separate quality lubricants from average ones fast.
Small engines. Lawnmowers, snowblowers, generators, pressure washers. I use AMSOIL in small engines and the difference in how equipment starts and runs through a season is noticeable.
Commercial and fleet vehicles. If you maintain a small fleet for a business, service vehicles, work trucks, delivery vans. Preferred Customer pricing gives you access to AMSOIL's fleet-grade products at a discount before you've reached the scale that justifies a commercial account.
Preferred Customer vs. Dealer, How Do You Know Which to Choose?
This comes up constantly and it's worth being direct about.
Choose Preferred Customer if:
You want AMSOIL for your own vehicles and equipment
You have no interest in selling to others or building a business
You want the simplest, lowest-commitment way to buy at a better price
Your annual AMSOIL spend is moderate, a few hundred dollars per year
Choose Dealer if:
You want to sell AMSOIL to others and earn commissions
You already have a network in automotive, diesel, powersports, or commercial equipment
Your personal AMSOIL usage is heavy enough that the lower dealer pricing saves you more than the $80 difference in annual fees between the two tiers
You're serious about building a side or primary income stream around the products
For the full breakdown on costs, what's included, and whether dealer or Preferred Customer is right for your situation, read How to Become an AMSOIL Dealer.
The $20 annual fee for Preferred Customer versus $100 for Dealer isn't the only variable. The question is whether the lower price tier at dealer cost, combined with the ability to earn on other people's purchases, justifies the higher annual fee and the commitment to learning the program. I cover this in detail in How to Become an AMSOIL Dealer.
For most people I talk to, Preferred Customer is the honest answer. I'd rather tell you that clearly than push you into a dealer registration that doesn't fit your situation.
What Does the Ordering Experience Look Like?
Once you're registered as a Preferred Customer, you order directly through AMSOIL's website using your account login. Your Preferred Customer pricing applies automatically, you don't need to enter codes or contact anyone. AMSOIL ships to your address with free shipping on every order.
The product catalog is organized by vehicle type and application, and AMSOIL's vehicle lookup tool lets you find the right products for your specific year, make, and model in a few clicks. If you're unsure which products fit your equipment, that's where I come in. I help Preferred Customers who join through me select the right products for their applications, not just at signup, but ongoing.
