If you are thinking about becoming a dealer for a premium synthetic lubricant company, the process is usually much simpler than people expect.
I’m Ken Smith, a certified AMSOIL independent dealer, and one of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that someone has to be a full-time salesperson or own a giant shop to become a dealer.
That is not true.
In my experience, the best dealers are often people who are already connected to the automotive world in some way. They may be:custom car owners, racers, repair shop owners, diesel drivers, motorcycle riders, powersports enthusiasts, fleet owners, or people who simply know other vehicle owners and like recommending products they trust.
Here is the way I explain it.
A Preferred Customer uses the products.A Dealer uses the products and has the ability to make money when others use them too.
That is the real difference.
The basic steps look like this: decide that the dealer path fits you better than the customer-only path, register as a dealer, begin using the products yourself, learn what the products do and who they fit, then start sharing them with others in your world.
That last part is where people either overcomplicate it or get stuck.
I always tell new dealers to keep it simple. Start with products you believe in. Start with conversations you are already having. Start with the people who already trust your opinion.
That could be customers at a shop, friends with trucks, people in racing circles, diesel contacts, powersports riders, or people who are tired of using average products.
When people join through me, I help them go deeper than just registering.
I help them:understand how the dealer program works, learn simple ways to get customers, see what successful dealers are doing, and avoid beginner mistakes.
My opinion is that the dealer opportunity makes the most sense for someone who already has relationships in the automotive world and wants the option to turn those relationships into extra income.
It is not about becoming a pushy salesperson. It is about using the products, believing in them, and helping the right people find what fits.
